_MG_8640What is it?

A recumbent bike is a bicycle that places the rider in a laid-back reclining position.

In spanish it is called bici reclinada, in dutch ligfiets, and in french vélo couché.

There are also recumbent trikes (with 2 rear wheels or 2 front wheels).

Is it comfortable?

Very comfortable! The recumbent bike is designed for ergonomy and comfort for the cylist, the rider’s weight is distributed comfortably over the large area of a wide seat, supported by back and buttocks, instead of the reduced area of the saddle. this new position changes the way of pedalling: the pedals are ahead, higher than the seat, it allows the rider either to push against the seat to go faster, or to leave the legs relaxed riding gently and enjoying nature.

The back, the neck and bottom are far more relaxed due to the position’s commodity.

How is a recumbent bike route?

Nothing better than a video to get an idea of how we feel on a recumbent bike, here on the Canal du Midi in France.

Our routes are easy-medium level, with good paths.

The recumbent bike is faster on downhill and on flat paths, due to better aerodynamic profile, climbing may require more effort, mainly because of the additional weight of these bikes.

The position is very comfortable, fully relaxed with a panoramic view, furthermore all the classic cyclist pains disappear, no more pains on neck, wrists, back, shoulders and bottom.

Getting started with a recumbent bike requires an adaptation time, the position is quite different, you have to find the balance (just remember when you were 5 years old, riding your first bike). The key is to maintain the back always stuck to the seat, and keep arms fully relaxed, without any tension. Relax, breathe and smile and you’ve got it!

You’ll need between 10 and 30 minutes of patience. Sooner or later everybody gets it.

Everyone who tries it have a lot of fun and really enjoys the experience!

The recumbent bike? A soft adventure! Just try it, you’ll really enjoy this bike designed to have fun!
